Our Wedding Day at the Hotel Villa Sostaga

The best decision I have ever made was to say 'yes' and become married - the second was to be clever enough to hold our wedding dinner and celebrations at the wonderful Hotel Villa Sostaga.
The entire romantic event was beyond my wildest dreams and fabulously fairy tale perfect!

The view of the 4 stars hotel over lake Garda, the service, the food, the colours, the floral scents wafting in the fresh mountain air, the tables on the terrace with vistas far and wide, the attention to every last detail...I could continue but I think you probably get the gist...this is the most outstanding, special, dream location for a wedding dinner, anywhere, EVER!

A day in Verona

We really loved the Hotel Monastero, with its palm trees and beautiful views of Lake Garda. This is a magical place for a holiday, and it made us want to see more of the local surroundings. We took a day trip to ancient city of Verona, which is about an hour's drive to the east of the hotel. The city is quaint and romantic, and full of interesting shops and architecture.

A highlight of the day was our visit to the Verona Arena. This is a Roman building which looks just like the Coliseum in Rome, and it must be about two thousand years old. These days, it is used for opera performances and pop concerts, but we just wandered around, soaking up the atmosphere. It was fascinating to imagine the thousands of people through the ages who have been here before us.

Gardone Riviera

Gardone Riviera is a small resort for tourists, ideally situated next to the largest lake in Italy, Lake Garda. The resort lies on the west shore of the lake and is the ideal location to be able to tour the various resorts that surround this famous lake area.

This is predominantly a tourist area, with several hotels in the surrounding area. There are a number of places to eat and drink, with ice cream parlours and cafes available for treats during those lazy afternoons soaking up the sun on the lakeside.

Only a short walk up the lakeside will bring you to Gardone Sopra, a small village with a lovely historical look and feel. This also has a number of places to eat and drink while you enjoy the picturesque surroundings.

If you enjoy exotic plant life, you may like to take the short walk from the lakeside to the Heller Garden. This is a botanic garden that was created in 1910 by Arthur Hruska. Because of the climate in this region, there is a variety of tropical plants that you may not have had the chance to see before. This would be well worth a visit in Gardone Riviera.

Happy families at Camping Fornella

I can honestly say that the family holiday this year was the best yet! This summer, the destination for us, two children and one large dog, was Camping Fornella on the shores of Lake Garda. The scenery around Lake Garda is incomparable. The deep blue, sparkling waters of the lake, clean, perfect beaches, stunning mountains and serene, silvery olive groves make this area a little slice of paradise.

Scenery aside, Camping Fornella's superb location and facilities meant that there really was something for all the family to enjoy, even Buttons, our beloved hound! One of the things that made this holiday really special for us was the warm welcome given to pets at Camping Fornella.Often, going on holiday means leaving our dog in kennels or with family members. Subsequently, holidays are marred by worry about the welfare of the family pet. Not this year, though!

Buttons, our lively dog, was able to join in with all the family fun this year, spending days playing with the children and enjoying long, sunny walks on the beach each morning. If, like us, you consider your pet a member of the family, then I wholeheartedly recommend Camping Fornella for a true family holiday.

A luxurious holiday

Last year I spent a luxurious holiday on beautiful Lake Garda at the boutique hotel Villa Sostaga.

Originally built in the 19th century as a hunting lodge it was transformed into a gorgeous summer residence and most recently into an intimate 4 star hotel with 11 well appointed double bedrooms. My spacious room offered a panoramic view of the lake and had all the quality facilities you would expect of a luxury hotel from a mini fridge to a free internet connection.

The buffet breakfast was absolutely delicious and the restaurant offered tasty and authentic dishes for lunch and dinner, which I enjoyed on the terrace. Afterwards to burn off the extra calories I took a dip in the outdoor pool with its glorious lakeview setting. Use of the solarium and turkish bath were included in the room rate and was a wonderfully indulgent experience followed by a therapeutic Ayurvedic treatment.

There was so much to see in the local area and fortunately Villa Sostaga was within easy reach of local tourist spots like Brescia and Verona. Located just a few minutes from the Gardesana State Road, it couldn't have been easier to enjoy everything Lake Garda had to offer.
